TCA9801: VILC for TCA9801

Part Number: TCA9801
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9509

Hello expert,

I'm not quite understand TCA9801 VILC portion description. Why don't we have VILC on A side for TCA9801 like TCA9509? Or do we have VILC spec for TCA9801? Thanks a lot!

Best regards,

Ann Lien

  • The TCA9509 has a current source on the A side. The TCA980x has a current source on the B side.

To differentiate between a low-level signal generated by itself or by another device, the TCA9509 uses a voltage offset, while the TCA980x measures the current, specified by IILC. (This is why the TCA980x does not allow pull-up resistors on the B side; they would provide current that is not measured.)

  • Hey Ann,

The VILC requirement is given for the same side of the I2C buffer with the static voltage offset (SVO) or the internal current source. This VILC parameter helps realize which side of the device is driving the bus low.

You may also see Why, When, and How to use I2C Buffers for more information.
