TUSB320LAI: Can CC2 be left disconnect when using direct connect cable?

Hi, I am using a custom USB-C cable with the TUSB320LAI where one half of the cable assembly plugs into a computer USB-C port and the other side has wires connected directly to the PCB. Since it is connected directly to the PCB the orientation on this side is constant and doesn't need both CC1 and CC2 to sense the connector orientation. 

Is it ok to leave CC2 disconnected?

    Hi,

    If one side of the Type-C cable is attached to your board then you would not need both CC1 and CC2 connected. It should be ok to leave CC2 disconnected in this case.

    Do you plan to pass data through the TX/RX channels on the type-C connection? Furthermore, would the 320LAI on your PCB be configured as a DFP or UFP?

    The device is being used in UFP mode

    When the CC2 is disconnected, will OUT1 and OUT2 be affected?

    We currently have our electronics setup so that the system will be held in reset if OUT1 is HIGH. We only want to operate if the PC is capable of sourcing at least 1.5A.

    Hi,

    OUT1 and OUT2 should not be affected because the current mode will be communicated through CC1 in your case. If you plan to use the SuperSpeed lanes, please connect the TX/RX in your system to TX1/RX1 if you are using CC1 only.

    Since you are holding your system in reset until detecting the current mode, be sure there are no timing violations when establishing the USB connection.
