TUSB8042A: Connect a USB 3.2 hub to a PC with a USB 2.0 port

Part Number: TUSB8042A

Hello,

I would like to use the "TUSB8042A" component to create a USB 3.2 hub. This allows me to expand the number of USB ports on my PC. This hub will connect USB 2.0 devices and USB 3.2 keys.

This hub will be used on different computers (Windows 11, Windows 10 and Windows XP).
If the "TUSB8042A" is connected to a Windows XP computer with a USB 2.0 port, can the "TUSB8042A" work in USB 2.0 or will it be blocked?

I would like the "TUSB8042A" to be a USB 2.0 hub on PCs with USB 2.0 port (Windows XP) and the "TUSB8042A" to be a USB 3.2 hub to PCs with USB 3.2 port (Windows 10 or higher) .

Does this component allow it?

Thank you in advance for your answer.

  • Hi,

The TUSB8042A incorporates two hubs internally: a USB 2.0 hub and USB3 hub. Each hub operates independently on a separate data bus.

So if the "TUSB8042A" is connected to a Windows XP computer with a USB 2.0 port, then TUSB8042A will be recognized as a USB2 device and will operate at USB2.0 speed. The device connected to the hub downstream ports will operate only at USB2.0 even if the device is USB3 capable.

But when connecting to a PC with a USB3 port, then the hub will be connected as a USB3 device and USB2 device.

    Thanks

    David
