DP83TG720S-Q1: How to lower the temperature of PHY chipset? Need Help

Hi Liz,

52°C is well within the temperature rating of the DP83TG720S-Q1, can you help me understand why you would like it lowered?

Hi David, 

Since our aging testing was done in a 25°C environment temperature, we're apprehensive about the abnormal working situation if we put the PCBA in an automobile with the environment temperature up to 80°C of a closed space. So we're trying to find an approach to lower the working temperature.

Hi Liz,

The PHY is rated up to 125C and specifically designed for automotive environments, so there should not be any issue in 80C environment. The resources I shared contain our thermal design recommendations, you may have a look and optimize your design accordingly.

Hi Liz,

I had a look at the schematic and did not find anything notable. Proper heat regulation is more a function of layout design. Please have a look at the shared resources and ensure there are at least 12 vias beneath the PHY as shown in the datasheet.
