DP83822I: Boot Mode for F/W upgarde

Part Number: DP83822I
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMIC110

Team,

One question about the boot mode with PHY.

Customer is doing the F/W upgrade with EtherNET boot mode, and found sometimes that internet connection works(Ethernet Connected) and sometimes it couldn't work(Ethernet doesn't connect).

Customer mentioned that failure mode would be about 50%.

However, when USB boot mode is used, there is no problem with Ethernet connected.

Please let us know what condition or waveform you'd like to know to identify the problem. thanks.

Device: AMIC(w/Bechoff IP) + DP83822I

Application: Servo Drive

Regards

Brian

  • Hi Brian,

Can you please share what driver is being used?

Can you also please describe the differences between USB boot mode and Ethernet boot mode?

    Sincerely,

    Gerome

  • The MAC Controller is AMIC110, and PHY is DP83822I.

AMIC110 is being used for the EtherNET/CAT usage. During the power on, Boot mode will be set via resistor pulled High/LOW on AMIC110. You can see the setting on the schematic. I'll send you the test results and more info offline.

As to USB boot, that is being used on the other project and AMIC110 doesn't be used.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Brian,

So this working/non-working behavior is between two different designs then?

I would recommend customer understand what from PHY perspective is different between the two designs from hardware and signaling standpoint.

From this design perspective, I would recommend checking out our troubleshooting guide for common issues when using DP83822. This would help establish a baseline of understand for customer and TI regarding debugging steps. If the issue still arises, then we can proceed further.

    Sincerely,

    Gerome

  • Only EtherNET boot mode is being used on this project. So both working/non-working behavior we found is only with boot mode.

In the USB boot mode on other projects with RS485/CAN comm, there is no ethernet communication and AMIC110 used.

Please let us know what the exact directions we can do to figure out issue? Thanks.

    Regards

    Brian

  • Hi Brian,

So to clarify, customer does not have a working DP83822 reference available to them?

    Sincerely,

    Gerome
