SN65HVD3082E: How do we configure device addressing

Part Number: SN65HVD3082E

Hi, I was trying to make a rs485 transmitter, I came across this ic and before starting the first question came to my mind was, how do I take care of each device address when multiple devices would be connected?

can you please explain me about it..??

thanks

  • This transceiver works on the electrical level. Everything you send can be seen by all receivers on the bus. To address specific devices, you have to implement your own protocol. There are several such protocols, e.g., Modbus.

  • Hi Chetan,

Clemens is correct. RS-485 is a physical layer standard - so it only defines the electrical requirements of the interface. For things such as addressing a higher level protocol applied with the RS-485 bus must be utilized. RS-485 is largely protocol independent so the choice is based on designer and system needs.
