DP83869HM: 10Base-T Repetitive 1 pattern generation not working

Hello,

I'm currently running ethernet compliance testing and am trying to generate an all-ones pattern for 10Base-T via register 0x25 in the DP83869HM but can't seem to get anything to generate.

By following app note snla239c, I am able to get the pseudo random generator to work for 10Base-T but as soon as I try to follow similar steps to generate repetitive 1 in reg 0x25, I get no output.

Here are the steps I am taking:

Reg: 0x1F = 0x8000

Reg: 0x0 = 0x100

Reg: 0x10 = 0x5008

Reg: 0x16 = 0x0004 # Also tried 0xD004

# Extended register write

Reg: 0xD = 0x1F

Reg: 0xE = 0x25

Reg: 0xD = 0x401F

Reg: 0xE = 0x13

Reg: 0x1F = 0x4000

Please let me know where I'm going wrong, thank you!

Hi Victoria,

If you are trying to do 10Base Harmonic Distortion test. Here is the following script:

Reg 0x1F = 0x8000 //Reset PHY
Reg 0x0 = 0x100 //Programs DUT to 10Base-Te Mode
Reg 0x10 = 0x5008 //Programs DUT to Forced MDI Mode or MDIX mode (0x5028)
Reg 0x25 = 0x13
Reg: 0x1F = 0x4000

Could you see if this help with you application.

Hi Hillman,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, I appreciate it! You are correct, I am trying to do the 10Base Harmonic Distortion test. I tried your suggestion above on my unit and it is still not generating a pattern. I also tried that same script on the 83869EVM evaluation board using TI's USB-2-MDIO tool and it also did not work. Would you be able to confirm that the script works with a 83869EVM on your end?

Hi Victoria,

I believe without programing the register 0x0016, the scripts should work. Let me double check one more time in the lab and let you know by the end of this week.

I was able to get the code you posted to work by removing the last command 0x1F = 0x4000. Not sure why this works but it does. Thanks again for your help!
