SN65DPHY440SS: Technical Solution for MiPi Retimer

Part Number: SN65DPHY440SS

Hello,

We are using SN65DPHY440SS part in one of our design and would like to understand where shall we place it exactly in our MIPI path along with the length described in the below image in red colour:
Also, please suggest the maximum supported input trace length and output trace length retimer part to use and where to place the retimers in the diagram.
Thanks & Regards,

  • Hey Chirag,

Its best to place the retimer in the middle 1/3 of the cable assembly. Our device has a max EQ of 5 dB, so aim to have the device compensate for ~4dB pre-channel loss. Using this ~4dB value and the loss coefficient of the trace you can determine where to place the device and what trace lengths on either side.

The trace length depends on the material used and the width of the trace, so this is a calculation you will need to do based off of your system.
