RS232 and RS485 Protection

Highlights:

  • RS-485 – Industry standard protocol for data transfer from sensors, etc.
  • Drive capability of minimum 32 unit loads (UL, 12kΩ)
  • Uses two signal lines A & B which must be balanced and differential
  • Runs on an I/O common-mode range: -7V to +12V, this requires the minimum breakdown voltage to be > 13.3V
  • Load capacitance requirements as per RS 485 standards <30pF
  • RS-485 lines being heavily used in outdoor signaling also require a surge protection.
