TPD3S713A-Q1: OTG mode

Part Number: TPD3S713A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPD3S713-Q1

Hello Team,

There is no mention whether the TPD3S713A-Q1 can work in OTG mode in the datasheet,

If we need to download software by this USB port, whether it's OK?

Thank you!

  • Hi Ailing,

The TPD3S713A does not directly support OTG mode.  The power path cannot be disabled separately from the usb path.

OTG protection devices require the power path to be turned off while leaving the usb path active.

    Regards,

    Chuck

  • Hi Chuck,

Thanks a lot for your quick reply! It's is Imelda FAE for Bosch China.

    1. For the announced email i see TPD3S713-Q1 could support OTG. Would u mind sharing the differences between TPD3S713-Q1 and TPD3A713A-Q1 with me?

2.From my understanding, if the protocol is set up correctly, the OTG and client mode could work normally. Why the power path could affect OTG? Would u mind giving me more info about that?

If there is any NDA documents related, u can send to me by email.

    Kind Regards

    Imelda

  • Hi Chuck,

I am not for sure the reason u mentioned is related to the description on the datasheet? Would u mind sharing with me more info about client mode and OTG? I always misunderstand them. Many thanks for your strong help!

    Kind Regards

    Imelda

  • Hi Chuck,

Final question, if 713/713A-Q1 works on the host mode, the OTG function could be realized or not?

    Kind Regards

    Imelda

  • Imelda,

OTG requires that the power path be bidirectional.  The 713 was designed to be a source only power path and cannot be turned off without disability the power switch.  The switch will always be on when the part is enabled, so the OTG function of disability the VBUS power source will have to be addressed somewhere else in the system.  In that sense, it can be used in an OTG system, but is not an ideal part.

The 713 will provide appropriate short to VBUS and VBUS OVP protection of the port, but will not provide the OTG based detection or control

    Regards,

    Chuck

  • Hi Chuck,

If Vbus has power on the ourput. I mean there is another power supply to Vbus, but power path is disable. Would the OTG work normally?

    Kind Regards

    Imelda

  • Hi Chunk,

    1. Could the TPD3S713A-Q1 work in host mode to do the supply of Vbus?(From Vin to Vbus) You told me that Vbus should be supplied by other power in system in OTG mode.

    2. On the carplay mode, iphone serve as host and cockpit serve as device. At that time, the mode of TPD3S713A-Q1 should work at the same mode (device mode) with cockpit or could work in host mode?

    Kind Regards

    Imelda

  • Imelda,

The 713 cannot be used to manage the connection to VBUS for OTG/Carplay mode.  It's power path will always stay enabled in order to keep the data lines active.

    1.  If something else in the system is able to turn VBUS on and off according the the carplay requirements, then the 713 will not prevent the system from operating.

    2.  The 713 is a simple mux on the DP/DM pins, so it will not be impacted by the swap from hot to device that occurs as part of carplay.

    Regards,

    Chuck
