ESD762: Prevent from Negative ESD strikes

Part Number: ESD762
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ESD752, STRIKE

Hi team,

From the original thread, ESD752 and ESD762 are recommended for CC pin protection of PD controllers (-0.5 abs min, 26V abs max).

Why does bi-directional ESD protection diodes protect from negative ESD strike? Could you please explain?

Regards,

Hayashi

  • Hi Hayashi,

As the absolute minimum is close to 0, a Uni-directional device might be best used here. Please see the graphic below for additional information:

The clamping voltage (both negative and negative) should be as close to the abs max as possible. A uni-directional device will break down closer to -0.5V than a bi-directional device. As these devices are Bi-directional, it might make sense to use TSM24A or TSM24B, which are uni-directional devices.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions!

    Best Regards,

    Josh Prushing
