DP83869HM: Ethernet connection between PCB and Panel mount M12 connector

Part Number: DP83869HM

Hi,

We have used parts in our ethernet design

1) TI's PHY DP83869HM

2) Magnetics from pulse electronics (10/100Base-T)

3) M12 connector from Amphenol (MFR# M12D-04PFFC-SF8B15)

Now, after magnetics MDI signals are coming to board edge and M12 connector with termination type wire leads is connected on back-panel of product.

If I connect wire leads of M12 connector with MDI signals through normal header (pitch: 1.27mm), there will be an impedance mismatch at this point. So, are there any recommended connectors or any other way using which ethernet trace impedance will be affected minimally?

P.S. I cannot use PCB mounted M12 connectors due to space limitation.

Thank you and regards,

Nikhil Jadhav

  • Hi Nikhil,

Unfortunately, I don't think there is any way to avoid discontinuity if you have this constraint. You can see if you can edge connector to another board that has the M12, but aside from this we do not have further guidance.

    Sincerely,

    Gerome
