DS90UB949A-Q1EVM: Analog LaunchPAD detects the wrong Device

Part Number: DS90UB949A-Q1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB2ANY, ALP

Hi all,

I am having problems connecting to my DS90UB949A-Q1EVM. The Analogue LauchPAD recognises the 925 EVM (see picture below).

I have already reset all jumpers on the board and reinstalled the software. The Device Information in the USB2ANY settings is set correctly.

The graphical user interface is also very laggy.

Where can these problems come from?

  • Hi Tobias,

Just to confirm, it appears you have the framework installation ALP Application software & framework | TI.com, but I would also like to confirm that you have also downloaded and installed the ALP-PROFILE-UPDATE that is located in this link: ALP-PROFILE-UPDATE Support software | TI.com.

Not having this supporting software is the most plausible cause of this type of phenomenon.

The issue with the laggy interface could arise from the driver, hardware connection, or profile itself mis-identifying the device the port is connected to (For example, ALP expects 949, but through the driver it sees 925 and there is a mismatch in the software causing it to lag).

If the ALP-PROFILE-UPDATE installation is already completed, then the next step would be to check the hardware at the USB connection, to ensure there are no interferences to the SCL/SDA lines of the I2C communication.

Please confirm if the profile update is installed, and if installation resolves the identification issue.

    Best,

    Miguel

  • Hi Miguel,

    Thank you for your reply.

I have already installed the profile update. Just to make sure, I reinstalled everything again.

The problem is still the same.

So it is most likely a hardware problem on the Eval board, if I understand correctly?

  • Hi Tobi,

    Understood, thanks for checking!

So it is most likely a hardware problem on the Eval board, if I understand correctly?

Yes it could also be a hardware configuration causing the device to be unrecognized, but less probable as it appears the PC can communicate fine with the MSP430.

I would suggest checking the voltage rails to the MSP430 (Voltage rails here) for any fluctuations in power, and to check the SCL and SDA lanes for any noise that may be propagating on the lines.

According to DS90UH949A-Q1EVM or DS90UB949A-Q1EVM User's Guide (Rev. A) (ti.com), you may be able to check:

    > J13 for 3.3V to USB2ANY MSP430.

    > J5 for 5V (VBUS) to USB2ANY MSP430.

    > Header J25 pin 2 for SCL and pin 3 for SDA.

The I2C level shifter should also have jumpers to check the incoming power, J41 and J42 (both headers on pin 2).

I will continue checking any other solutions that may be causing the issues with the identification of the 949A on the software side, but please confirm these voltages/signals for any abnormalities.

    Miguel

  • Hi Miguel,

I have ordered a new evaluation board and now everything is working perfectly. So your assumption about the hardware defect was correct.

    Many thanks for your help.
