DS90UB926Q-Q1: Difference between LVDS and FPD link III display

Part Number: DS90UB926Q-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB941AS-Q1, , DS90CF384A, DS90UB948-Q1

Dear Team,

I am redesigning a board for a display and I will be using these two IC's from TI (DS90UB941AS-Q1 , DS90UB926Q-Q1).

DS90UB941AS-Q1 will be present in the processor side and DS90UB926Q-Q1 is present in the display board.

The these two boards are connected using a Fakra connector.

Let me give a brief explanation of the signal chain present in the old board.

The processor is same in both boards. In old board we used these two IC's(SN65DSI83TPAPRQ1 and DS90CF384AQMTXNOPB)

First IC is used in the processor side and second IC is used in display. Custom made cable is used for connection.

As per my understanding old board is completely LVDS. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Now let me come to my question.

May I know the difference between LVDS and FPD LINK III

Regards

HARI

  • Hi HARI,

The older devices had LVDS interface to connect transmitters (eg. DS90C383A) to receivers (eg. DS90CF384A). The LVDS interface has four or three data lanes and clock a lane.

The FPD-link III interface is a link between the serializer and deserializer, over dual or single link modes, which can be used with STP (for differential) or coax (single-ended) cables. This requires fewer lanes for transmission compared to LVDS, and the devices support higher speeds.

From your description, it seems that you will have DSI on the processor and RGB parallel interface on the display. In that case, the 941AS and 926 are applicable, depending on the video bandwidth required.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Ikram,

    Thank you very much.

You are correct, DSI is on the processor.

May I know LVDS support touch screen displays.

    Regards

    HARI

  • Hi HARI,

If you are looking for an FPD-Link III deserializer, with output interface LVDS or OpenLDI for display, then you could consider the DS90UB928-Q1 or DS90UB948-Q1.

    Best regards,
    Ikram
