DS90CR288A: LVDS/RGB to HDMI

Part Number: DS90CR288A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FLINK3V8BT-85, , TFP410

Hi team,

My customer wants to bridge LVDS/RGB to HDMI. I search it in ti.com and see the article below.

https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slla559/slla559.pdf?ts=1716196672289&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Fsitesearch%252Fen-us%252Fdocs%252Funiversalsearch.tsp%253FlangPref%253Den-US

It says DS90CR288A can do this. And I search FLINK3V8BT-85 in the website.

Can we transmit the signal through this EVM?

  • Hi Peter,

If you look through the app note you shared, it suggests using a two-chip solution:

    - The SoC would be the LVDS TX
    - The LVDS RX would be any of the deserializers listed in Table 2-1. such as DS90CR288A
    - The DVI TX would be the TFP410

This is applicable when there is no audio required, DVI is equivalent to HDMI without audio

    SOC - DS90UB981 - DS90UB928/926 - DS90CR288A - HDMI scree

Does the SoC have a DSI interface here? Could you please tell us what the output of the SoC is?
Also, with HDMI or DVI input to the screen, you would need a bridge (such as the TFP410), since the DS90CR288A output is LVCMOS

  • Hi Ikram,

Does the SoC have a DSI interface here? Could you please tell us what the output of the SoC is?

Yes it has a DSI interface. Actually my customer do not design the SER board, so we have little information about it.

It seems like we can transmit to HDMI signal by:

    SoC - DS90UB981 - DS90UB926 - DS90CR288A - HDMI SCREEN

DS90UB926 outputs RGB signal and DS90CR288A can receive it.

Can we transmit the signal through this EVM?

If they want to evaluate it, can we apply for this EVM and ask them to transmit the signal in this EVM?

    Regards,

    Peter

  • Hi Peter,

Before trying to evaluate on EVMs, I think we should review the interfaces here

    1. We would need information about the SER board to know the interface used, serializer used (to check if compatible) and configuration for FPD-link. What serializer is used?

Actually my customer do not design the SER board, so we have little information about it.

    2. The 926 outputs RGB, but the DS90CR288A input is LVDS, not RGB. You cannot connect them together.

DS90UB926 outputs RGB signal and DS90CR288A

    3. The DS90CR288A output is RGB or LVCMOS/. You would need an HDMI transmitter like the TFP410

    4. What is the display interface required? Is it HDMI, DVI (HDMI without audio) or something difference?

    5. On the board being designed, what is the incoming video link? Is it FPD-link, LVDS, or another video interface?

Please review the interfaces between each device and check the requirements for SoC and display.

    Best regards,
    Ikram

  • Hi Ikram,

I got it. You mean the LVDS to HDMI device is TFP410.

I don't see a TFP410EVM in ti.com. Do we have any evaluation board that can bridge LVDS to HDMI?

    Regards,

    Peter

  • Hi Peter,

It seems there is no EVM specifically, but there are reference designs. There's more about it in this E2E thread.

By the way, TFP410 by itself is actually LVCMOS to HDMI or DVI.

    Best regards,
    Ikram
