Hello.

I checked the operation by configuring downstream 3.x A type circuit using the TUSB8041.

We connected a sensor with a C type interface to this board using an A-to-C cable.

After that, I added the cable circuit to the TUSB8041 schematic to get rid of the cable.

But it doesn't work. Which one did I miss?

1. TUSB8041 hub schematic + A-to-C Cable --> OK

2. TUSB8041 hub schematic + A-to-C schematic --> Fail

Is the host able to recognize the hub as a USB3x hub?

There are times when host recognize it as 3.x and sometimes don't(as 2.0).

Hi,

Looking at the schematic,

1. Add one 10uF cap to VDD

2. Add one 10uF cap to VDD33

3. For the four Type-C port, you have to use a CC controller plus a MUX to support the Type-C implementation.

But the host should be able to recognize the hub both at USB2 and USB3.

Can you please probe GRST and crystal oscillator to make sure the hub power up sequence timing is met?

I captured it like the timing diagram on the datasheet.

Again, it was a circuit that worked before, and the only difference was that it was changed with a type C connector.

Hi,

For the Type-C, you have to use a CC controller and MUX. But I would expect the host would still recognize the hub itself.

Are green and yellow waveform the power supply? Can you please probe clock with the reset?

I understood that we need a CC controller and MUX.

It worked using A-to-C cable, but I don't know why it doesn't work if we embedded it as a circuit.

Do you know the reason?

Hi,

But does the hub itself get recognized by the host without the Type-C sensor? This would indicate the hub design itself is ok, and we should focus on the hub downstream ports.

The A-to-C cable probably includes a CC controller, I suspect without the CC controller, the Type-C sensor is not able to successfully handle the CC negotiation.
