TCAN3404-Q1: Please help to check SCH

Part Number: TCAN3404-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ESD2CAN24-Q1

Hi team,

Since I am not familiar with TCAN. Could you help to double check SCH for TCAN3404-Q1?

Thanks,

Leo

  • Leo,

Thanks for bringing this to E2E. A few points of feedback on the schematic:

    • 100nF is the minimum requirement for decoupling the power supply from the input pin to help with any high-frequency noise. I'd recommend also adding a bulk capacitor, in the range of 4.7uF to 10uF, close to the VCC pin.
    • Pin 5 is a true no connect and does not need to be connected to anything.
    • The CANH and CANL pins correctly have 120 ohms between them, but this can also be populated with split termination. Split termination is two 60 ohm resistors in series between CANH and CANL with a capacitor, usually 4.7nF, to GND at the midpoint between the two resistors.
      • It's also important to add filter and protective components to the bus like capacitors to GND on both CANH and CANL, a common-mode choke, and a protection diode like ESD2CAN24-Q1.
      • None of the components previously mentioned are required for correct function of the transceiver, they are just recommended to help with signal integrity

Everything else looks good to me.

    Regards,

    Eric Hackett
