TUSB216: eye diagram

Part Number: TUSB216

Tool/software:

Hi team,

My customer use TUSB216RWBR in C to C 5M cable, C ports use this chip at both ends.

1. Customer is currently testing eye diagram, attenuation. When removing TUSB216 and modifying BOOST, RX-SEN values, the eye diagram does not change. Please help to see if the customer's test method was wrong? Or any other suggestions?

2. In addition, with 2pcsTUSB216 on one cable, do you have a recommendation for the IN/OUT direction of the 2 TUSB216 signals?

R24 is currently 1.8K, already according to specifications.

Regards,

ivy

  • Hi Ivy,

It does sound like the redriver is not enabling. My first suggestions would be to monitor the CD and ENA_HS pins if possible, ensure that the test procedure listed in section 8.2.2.1 is being followed, and that signals are not being passed through the redriver until after the redriver is enabled.

Just to confirm, is the TUSB216 being used IN the cable, or on the boards the cable is connecting to?

    2. In addition, with 2pcsTUSB216 on one cable, do you have a recommendation for the IN/OUT direction of the 2 TUSB216 signals?

Our redrivers are bidirectional, so there is no preference for which direction the redriver is facing, so long as the DP/DM lanes are connected to the correct pins.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

  • Hi Ryan,

Thanks for your comments! Now, the eye diagram can be tested now.、

In addition, the customer is now testing attenuation, impedance, crosstalk, etc. However, these tests are also not tested after power-up.
According to the process of 8.2.2.1, Is TUSB216 required to be in the condition of HS signal transmission to do these related characteristic tests?

    Regards,

    Ivy

  • Hi Ivy,

They are testing these characteristics for this device? Or just for the system in general?

In order to test these characteristics for the TUSB216 or in order for the redriver to be enabled for these tests, yes, the redriver would need to see a HS signal moving through the DP/DM pins so that it can properly enable. Otherwise, the redriver will not enable.

What is their process for testing this? Are they not powering the redriver, or are they just not using a HS signal to test?

    Thanks,

    Ryan

Do you have an update to this e2e thread or is this issue being resolved?

    Thanks
