SN65HVD1782: SN65HVD1782 VCC input ripple requirement

Part Number: SN65HVD1782

Tool/software:

HI team,

I plan to use a DCDC which output 5.2V to supply the SN65HVD1782, and also the ripple could be 100mVpp

Is it okay to use this DCDC to supply RS485 VCC? The datasheet only says VCC range 3.15V to 5.5V, could you help to clarify further?

If yes, how ripple could affect the 485 performance?

Thanks.

  • Hi Cheng,

that should be fine, no real issue with this since the voltage should still fall within the recommended operating rating and doesn't exceed the absolute max rating we spec.

We don't have a spec for how bad ripple can be for the device, you should be able to add some capacitors close to the Vcc pin to try to smooth the ripple to the device. Something like a 0.1uF in parallel with a 1uF cap in parallel with a 10uF as close to the Vcc pin of our device should help.
