DS280BR810: Can I use two or more this IC in one link?

Part Number: DS280BR810
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS280DF810

Tool/software:

here i have a link like below:

FPGA --> connector --> cable --> connector --> DS280BR810 --> connector --> DS280BR810 --> QSFP module

can this work? in one link with two or more DS280BR810.

  • Hi Faure,

    It is generally not recommended to cascade redrivers because redrivers only compensate for ISI due to channel insertion loss.  They do not remove jitter as effectively as retimers.

    Is this for 25GbE application?  Have you considered DS280DF810?

    Also, can you share estimated insertion losses within your system?

    Thanks,

    Drew

  • Hi Drew:

    yes, this is a 25GbE application, you mean i can use a DS280DF810 replace DS280BR810?

    just like below?

    FPGA --> connector --> cable --> connector --> DS280BR810 --> connector --> DS280DF810 --> QSFP module

    The insertion loss of my system is around -40dB or higher, I think.

  • Hi Faure,

    Yes I believe the above configuration will be better suited for your application. If you are interested, I can share IBIS-AMI models for DS280DF810 and DS280BR810. These can be useful to perform simulations and build confidence in the design.

    Best,

    Lucas
