DP83867IR: Drop-in replacement

Hi,

I have used DP83867IR device in a transformer-less PHY to PHY connection. As this device doesn't support transformer-less operation, is there any drop-in replacement device which supports transformer-less operation.

Hi Kumara,

The DP83869HM would be the closest part, but it is not a drop in replacement. Recently I received a query where a customer was unaware that the DP83867 did not support capacitive coupling, and the DP83867 worked in their system with no issue. If you already have a board made with the DP83867 in a capacitive coupled layout, please test it out and check the performance.

We have already ordered DP83869HM & will do the required wiring.

In our case we are connecting DP83867 to Realtec PHY RTL8211 through capacitive coupling. Do you thing capacitive coupling is OK for PHY to PHY connections?

Hi Kumara,

As mentioned, in our testing we saw several issues with the DP83867 capacitive coupled with another PHY. Our stance is to not use the DP83867 for this application. Please continue with the DP83869HM
