DS90C187: Datasheet clarification

Part Number: DS90C187
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5729,

Tool/software:

Hi Experts,

Good day!

I am posting this on behalf of the customer.

Here are the full details of the inquiry:

I want to use this device in the Single Pixel In / Dual Pixel Out (SIDO) format given on p13.

I am trying to interface with the Sitara AM5729 uP.

So I have got 24 data output pins from the Sitara but the table in the datasheet (page 4 DS90C187 Pin Descriptions — Serializer)  just says connect them up to INA_[27:21], INA_[17:9] and INA[8:0] but it doesn't tell me what order.

Is it MSB descending to LSB? or LSB ascending to MSB? Is it Red first, then Green followed by Blue, or in a different order?

The EVM schematic isn't any help, it doesn't show R, G, or B just generic input pins - I suspect going to a pattern generator.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Best regards,

Jonathan

  • Hi Jonathan,

The "8.4.1.1 Color Mapping Information" section explains the color mapping for RGB to LVDS. It shows which INA input should be connected to each RGB and HS, VS, DE pins. And then you can refer to "8.4.1 LVDS Interface / TFT Color Data Recommended Mapping" section, to see how it is serialized into the LVDS output.

This app note also explains the color mapping for JEIDA or VESA formats:

Please let me know if you have further questions on this.

Also, is the DS90C187 option already chosen for this application? Does it meet the pixel clock rate and other requirements?
