TCAN1145-Q1: SWE timer

Part Number: TCAN1145-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi team,

My customer would like to know the reason that we added the SWE timer function on TCAN1145-Q1, does it have any advantage to the system? Because the customer has just moved from TJA1145 to TCAN1145-Q1 and it seems like the TJA1145 doesn't have the SWE timer.

Could you please give some comments? Thanks.

Regards,

Ivy

  • Hi Ivy,

The SWE timer is a fail-safe feature that ensures that the system will enter its lowest power mode (transceiver in sleep mode, INH off) if there is an issue with the MCU. For example if the MCU is caught in an infinite loop and is unable to drive the transceiver into normal mode after a wake event occurs on the CAN bus, a system without an SWE timer would remain in this active standby state indefinitely, being unresponsive to the rest of the system and burning excess current even if the rest of the system is in a low power mode. With the SWE timer, the transceiver will automatically place the local node into sleep mode in such a case so that the power impact of this fault on the system is minimized.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
