TCAN4550: Alternative power scheme options

Part Number: TCAN4550

Tool/software:

We would like to use the 2x TCAN4550 in automotive setting with 24V power supply. We are mostly interested in it because of CAN Controller+Transciever functionality. TCAN4550 will be connected to a processor without inbuilt CAN controller. We are considering how to power it, one option would be to use SMPS at 7V to keep the power consumption and heat dissipation low. Is it possible to power TCAN4550 from external 5V SMPS (eg. by supplying power to FLTR or VCCOUT pin, bypassing the internal regulators)?

  • Hello Dejan,

Unfortunately it is not possible to bypass the VSUP minimum voltage requirements by powering the VCCOUT and FLTR pins directly.  But using a 7V SMPS would work because the voltage is greater than the required VSUP minimum voltage.

    Regards,
