TCAN4420: Power consumption

Part Number: TCAN4420
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD256

Tool/software:

Hi team,

How large the power consumption of TCAN4420, TCAN4450 and SN65HVD256 in normal work mode? Customer need the data to design their power supply. but I don't find the spec in our datasheet.

  • Hi Jingguo,

The maximum ICC for any CAN transceiver will be specified under the "dominant with bus fault" condition. This is a state where there is a short on the CAN bus and the driver will be current limited by the transceiver. For most transceivers this maximum is around 115mA, but for these older transceivers it can be as large as 180mA. If this power requirement is too great, a newer transceiver such as the TCAN1044A may be used that has a lower current limit.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
