TL16C752D: CLKSEL pin in datasheet and default value of MCR[7]

Part Number: TL16C752D

Tool/software:

Hello,

I have found on page 24 of the TL16C752D datasheet a mention to the CLKSEL pin, which controls the value of the clock prescaler upon coming out of reset. The pin CLKSEL doesn't exist on the pinout and isn't mentioned in the pin description from what I can see. This raises two questions is there a pin which acts as CLKSEL and is called something else? What is the true default value of MCR[7] absent the existence of a CLKSEL pin?

  • Hi Sam,

I'll try to look into this for you and get back by tomorrow if I find out the answer. I may need to reach out to the design team which may take longer.

My guess is we may have used a competitor device's datasheet as a reference and did not remove that detail since we made changes to our device.

  • Hi Sam,

Very sorry about the late response here.

The device itself does not have a clksel pin, this seems to be a copy paste error that followed a previous device. I believe some of our older devices had a clksel pin. In the "newer" devices, the expectation was the customer/designer would set the clksel pin by setting the internal register that they were required to write to during initialization anyways.

The MCR[7] should be a logic 0 when the device is powered up or reset. This is suggested in table 2 of the datasheet and table 7 (bit values populated in this table show what they should be after a reset or power up as well).
