DS280DF810: SMBus control via USB2ANY and SigCon Architect

I'm working on a custom DS280DF810 eval board. Can the device SMBus interface be controlled using a USB2ANY interface adapter and SigCon Architect software?

Here are the details I've worked out so far, please let me know if there's anything I'm missing:

J4 of the USB2ANY would connect via ribbon cable to the custom eval board. The USB2ANY contains programmable 1.5k pullups on the SDA/SCL lines, which is outside the 2k-5k pullup range suggested by the DS280DF810 datasheet. So, for example, 2.7k pullups to 3.3VEXT (sourced by the USB2ANY) should be added on the SDA/SDC pins.

Based on the DS280DF810 design files I received, it appears that SigCon Architect v2.0.0.8 with DS250DF810 profile v1.0.1.5 is the right software configuration to use. Let me know if there's a newer profile compatible with SigCon v3 that I should use instead.

    Yes, the SMBus interface can be controlled using a USB2ANY interface adapter and SigCon Architect.

    J4 can be connected in order to interface with the I2C bus.

    One thing I'm unsure about is whether 3.3VEXT will be enabled with SigCon Architect.  I can double check this and get back to you tomorrow, but you may need to connect the pullups to another 2.5V/3.3V source.

    You have the right files, using the DS250DF810/DS280DF810 profile with SigCon Architect 2 is the correct software.

    Once you've completed your schematic, we'd be happy to help review the DS280DF810 relevant parts of the schematic if you'd find this valuable.

  • Hi Charlie,

    I observed that 3.3VEXT was enabled when a USB2ANY was connected to SigCon Architect, so you could use this for pullup.  I'd still consider adding a jumper or something similar into your design to allow for an alternative I2C pullup voltage source.
