TCAN1044A-Q1: Datasheet Question

Part Number: TCAN1044A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1145-Q1, TCAN1043A-Q1, ISO1042

Tool/software:

Hello Team,

1. Is there a self-diagnosis function other than the Bus fault protection, Under voltage protection, TXD-dominant time-out and Thermal-shutdown protection described in the data sheet?

2. Is there a possibility that a malfunction may occur due to environmental factors such as a specific temperature within the operating temperature range and operating voltage range described in the data sheet?
Also, is there a possibility that a malfunction may occur at a specific voltage in the same way?
In addition, is there a possibility that a malfunction may occur due to a combination of specific environmental factors and voltage?
If there is a possibility of malfunction, please explain the environmental factors and voltage etc.

3. Are there any other precautions other than those described in the data sheet (TCAN1044A-Q1, TCAN1044AV-Q1 SLLSFJ3C – February 2021 – revised December 2021)?

  • Hi Ryo,

    1. Is there a self-diagnosis function other than the Bus fault protection, Under voltage protection, TXD-dominant time-out and Thermal-shutdown protection described in the data sheet?

No, fault detection is available on our 14-pin CAN transceivers  like TCAN1043A-Q1 and TCAN1145-Q1, but not on the 8-pin devices.

We can guarantee as long as those characteristics are within the recommended operating conditions, there will be no malfunction. But regarding the environmental factors you mentioned, it depends on the type of concern that you have. If your system or environment has a high risk of large electrostatic discharges, you can add TVS diode as a protection device. If you are concerned about large voltage offsets or other environmental conditions requiring isolation, you can consider ISO1042, which is an isolated CAN transceiver.

    3. Are there any other precautions other than those described in the data sheet (TCAN1044A-Q1, TCAN1044AV-Q1 SLLSFJ3C – February 2021 – revised December 2021)?

From what I know there is not. And we don't have a plan to update this datasheet.

    Regards,

    Sean
