HD3SS460EVM-SRC: [USB-C DP mode] What IC to use to detect a DP connexion for correct muxing ?

Part Number: HD3SS460EVM-SRC
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HD3SS460, TPS65987, TPS6598X-CONFIG

Tool/software:

Hi, I'd like some help with the HD3SS460's multiplexing control.

The HD3SS460 can multiplex a USB 3.0 data link from a host to a USB-C connector or a Display Port source to the USB-C connector. This multiplexing is controlled by 3 logic pins: EN, AMSEL, POL. The User's Guide for this product shows the following connection diagram:

Can you recommend a PD controller reference that can standalone detect via pins CC1, CC2 in order to output the correct logic levels for the above-mentioned control signals?

See here circled in red what I'm looking for, based on an illustration from another reference:

Another question, I can see the logic level "M" in the control signals, what does it mean? I'm not used to it.

Thank you.

  • Hi,

Please take a look at the TPS6598x PD controller with TPS65987 as one example, https://www.ti.com/product/TPS65987D.

AMSEL is the only one of these 3 Events that can be tri-stated to get an "M", or Mid-rail Voltage value. This will require equal pull-up & pull-down resistors externally or you can enable both of the internal 100k-Ohm pull-up & pull-down resistors of the TPS6598x PD controller in the TPS6598X-CONFIG Config Tool.

    Thanks
