TVS2701: Fusing the TVS

Part Number: TVS2701

Tool/software:

Dear Support,

Can you tell how to properly Fuse the TVS2701 TVS diode ?

Vin normal operation 24V 1.25A -> 30W , max current 2.25A -> 54W

Can you tell how to size the fuse, so that the fuse blows before the TVS2701 if constant DC of 48V is applied instead of 24VDC ?

I'm looking for the parameter I^2T (A^2sec) for the TVS2701 diode, can you provide this parameter?

Best Regards,

d.

  • Hi d,

    I'm not an expert on Fuses, but I will try to provide some insight here. I believe if you are trying to protect against a constant DC of 48V that you will need to select a fuse that has a lower voltage rating (closer to the 48V you are trying to protect against).

    TVS2701 is manufactured on a FET based process, so I do not believe the I^2T rating applies to this type of device. TVS2701 does not cause a open circuit during a transient event like a fuse does, it simply diverts the transient event to ground.

    Please let me know if I have misunderstood anything here, or if you have any additional questions!

    Best Regards,
