THVD4411: Shared RS232 RS485 pinout

Part Number: THVD4411

Tool/software:

Hi,
I would like to use the THVD4411 chip for RS232 and 485 communication,  (485 only in half duplex)
the issue is I want them on the same pinout of the connector -the same 2 pins will be used for RS232 and RS485.

Is this possible?
how?

(I thought to connect R1 and R3 together, but not sure if its allowed and do the job)

Thanks

Shamir

  • Hi Shamir,

You can connect the R1 and R3 pins together. The R3 pin is an RS232 output that I wouldn't expect to violate the abs max voltage for the R1 RS485 input limit of +/-16V.

This will look like an additional stub on the line (some minor reflections could occur) but I think this should be minimal.
