MAX3232: DOUT2 issue

Part Number: MAX3232

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

We are facing an issue with MAX3232, as the DOUT2 is shorting with GND(becomes 0E wrt GND) when the board is powered ON and a transaction appears on DIN2, we have used NUP2105L for ESD,, and the pin becomes OPEN once board is turned OFF.

  • Mahendra,

Do you have a schematic we can review?

Are you performing any kind of stress tests to the part?

  • Hi,

    Please find the sch snippet,

  • Hi Mahendra,

I don't see an issue with how the device itself is set up.

The ESD diode looks like it clamps outside of the absolute max rating. The clamping voltage is 40V~44V for the ESD strikes while our device has an absolute max voltage on the receivers is 25V and the drivers are 13.2V so it's not going to protect the device very well during the clamping event.

You probably want to get a TVS diode that can clamp below 13.2V since the damage you are seeing is on the Driver side.
