I am trying to build a sync only board of variable voltage up to 20v 5A, does it make sense adding an ESD protection like TPD2S300 to TPS25730?

Hi Akshay, yes we would recommend using this protection device in conjunction with the TPS25730 for ESD and short-to-vbus port protection.
