Yes, connecting directly is totally fine. You can also include a small value series resistor (10-33 ohm) near the signal driver to slow the edge and attenuate the signal ringing, in order to avoid transients in the digital signals for the SPI bus.

PIN/nCS is used for control mode selection at power up. When tied to GND, the device set to pin mode. When connected to a high-Z processor IO pin or pulled up, the device is set to SPI mode. Please see datasheet 8.3.7 for details.
