THVD4431: V+/V- rails

Hi there,

I'm starting a new design with the THVD4431. I am a bit confused about how to use the V+/V- rails. I guess I am not supposed to apply external power to these inputs, I only need to provide the external capacitors. Can anyone please confirm?

Correct. The purpose of the V+/V− pins is to connect the capacitors that stabilize the generated bus voltages. (You could use them as power outputs, but you are not supposed to take a noticeable current out of them.)

Hi JD,

You're correct. Those pins are not supposed to be connected to external power nor are they used to source power to other blocks of your design. They are used to store the charge from the charge pump circuit internal to the device. You just need to connect them to external capacitors. We recommend 100nF caps from the pin to GND. We probably want the voltage rating on the cap to be atleast 10V.
