Hello,

We are planning to use the SerDes DS90UB949-Q1 and DS90UB948-Q1 in our project and would like to clarify some details regarding HDCP. Specifically, we have two questions:

Can we establish communication between the DS90UB949-Q1 and DS90UB948-Q1 without implementing HDCP?
Is an HDCP license required for normal communication between these devices as well?

We would greatly appreciate any insights or experiences you can share.

HI Abhishek,

The differences between UB and UH is mainly HDCP encryption. The UB version doesn't support High Definition Content Protection (HDCP), otherwise UH devices support HDCP. Using UH device is a valid license from DCP organization.

Hi Josh,

Thanks for the clarification.

Currently, we have the DS90UH949-Q1 and DS90UH948-Q1 SerDes. Can we use this without HDCP activation to transmit data, or is HDCP mandatory for communication between devices?

HDCP is not enabled by default. All other functionality will work as usual. Please refer to this reference: Link
