THVD1449: Which protective elements are implemented in the IC in addition to the TVS diodes?

Part Number: THVD1449

Tool/software:

Hello,

in the TI application note "Simplifying Surge Protection for RS-485 Using Integrated Designs" by Parker Dodson it is shown in a block diagram (fig 3-1) that the TVS diodes are integrated in the housing of THVD1449. It is also mentioned that this device can be used without any external protective devices.

In fig. 2-3 however, we can see that normally more elements like resistors, MOVs and TBUs are used for the protection of RS-485 transceivers. Are the pulse proof resistors and eventually other elements also integrated into THVD1449?

I'm interested in this question because I wonder whether also currents are limited (e.g. due to potential differences when using long cables) or if it is purely a voltage clamping.

Best regards,

Stefan
