Datasheet Figure 9-4 indicates 10ohm series resistors on A/B line for transient protection.

Any issues if customer steps up R1 and R2 to 300ohm resistors?

These resistors would form a voltage divider with the 60 Ω termination, i.e., the output voltage would no longer conform to the TS-485 specification, and you would lose most of the noise margin.
