Does THVD4431 support output short circuit to ground?

    All RS-485 drivers support this; the maximum short-circuit current is specified in section 5.7 if you want to design your power supply for this.

    The RS-232 drivers do not support this continuously or for more than one output; see footnote (2) in section 5.7.

    Hi Andy,

    Clemens clarified the some of the main points here. The THVD4431 has an internal failsafe feature, per Section 7.3.3 RS-485 Receiver Fail-Safe Operation in the datasheet.

    This feature supports open bus, shorted bus, and idle bus conditions. Please reach out with any other questions.
