TVS0701: ESD protection for analog input/output

Part Number: TVS0701
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ESD401

Tool/software:

Dear Technical Support Team,

I'm looking for ESD protection for analog input/output.

Input/Output voltage is from 0V to 5V(DC level) and low leak current is required.

ESD resistance: over ±6kV

TVS0701(Target Application PLC I/O) is for TVS, however it seems to have enough spec for ESD(IEC 61000-4-2).

Leakage current is  "at 0.25-nA Typical at 27°C,  200-nA Maximum at 85°C"

The leakage current for  ESD401 is smaller like 10nA(max), 30pA(typ).

Is it possible to use ESD401 for analog input/output?

If you have any other recommended product, please let me know.

Best Regards,

ttd

  • Hi ttd,

I would recommend ESD401 for analog I/O because this device will have a lower capacitance, which will maintain more signal integrity than the TVS0701. If you can provide a specific interface you are protecting, I can verify that the capacitance is suitable for the data rate, but because ESD401 has a capacitance of 0.77pF it will be very suitable for any general purpose I/O and up to ~10Gbps data lines. I do not expect you will have any trouble using this device for analog I/O Slight smile

Please let me know if you have any additional questions!

  • Hi Josh Prushing,

    Thank you for your reply.

I got ESD401 is suitable for Analog I/O.

Could you please let me know if there are any other datasheet specs that might cause noise (error) by passing analog signals?

The analog signal is a DC level, so it does not have a particular frequency, like a sine wave(Sampling rate of ADC is 250ksps).

    Best Regards,

    ttd

  • Hi ttd,

There are no other specifications to worry about for noise on analog signals, capacitance is the only worry.

If the sampling rate of ADC is 250k, ESD401 will be suitable for your use case.
