There is a typical application in the datasheet of TCA39416. Port A is connected to Controller and Port B is connected to Device.
Here in my application, VCC of controller is 1.8V, VCC of device is 1.0V. Based on VCCA<= VCCB, so I have to connect Port B to the Controller, while Port A is connected to the slave device.
The picture below shows my application. Can this work?
Yes.
I²C is a bidirectional protocol; it does not matter which device you choose to call "controller".
