SN65HVDA540: What Performances will be Influenced by RL Changes

Part Number: SN65HVDA540

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

Customer asked when the RL is changed what performances will be influenced?

For example, the RL change from 60ohm(recommended) to 50ohm.

I checked in the datasheet that the VOD and PD have different performances.

How I and customer understand the role of RL for this CAN?

Thanks in advance.

BRs,

Francis

  • Francis,

SN65HVDXX is not recommended for new designs, I would suggest customer migrate to TCAN1044AV-Q1.

RL is the bus load value, as CAN requires 60 Ohms bus termination it is the typical value of our testing. Changing RL will mainly affect the switching time characteristics, so if the customer want to verify datasheet characteristics from their own test they need to ensure the bus load matches our datasheet test condition.

I'm also including an app note that illustrate how termination could impact the differential voltage symmetry.
