LM5013: Thermal performance

hi team,

my customer wants to use lm5013 to run at Vin:36V, Vo:12V with the constant current 3A. The SCH and PCB is as below.

The solution can only run to 2.7A and the temp of the chip will rise to 110℃.When they run the 3A output current ,the system can only wok well lasting 30min. the system will go wrong after 30mins.

Do u have any advise on the improvement of the thermal or do we have some thermal simulation to help customer lay out? thanks!

    Hello Zoey,

    Need to ensure you significantly increase coppers area for VIN and GND.  Remember the VIN is the Drain of the HS MOSFET internal to the device.  Also placing thermal vias for VIN and connect through to the internal and bottom layer will greatly help.
