ESD321: ESD321: How do you tell the polarity of the package?

Part Number: ESD321

Tool/software:

Can someone please confirm the correct answer for the SOD-523 package part?

The datasheet seems to be consistent and correct for the X1SON part, but is contradictory for the SOD-523 package part.

And physical part labeling on the physical SOD-523 parts is completely different to what is shown and detailed in the datasheet, with NO bar on the end of the part, but text and a dot.

Table 5-1 (on page 3) looks to flip the pin numbers on the SOD-523 package part (which is inconsistent with other SOD-523 parts - such as TPD1E05).

And if the details in Table 5-1 are correct, then both Figure 5-2 and "Typical USB 2.0 Application Schematic" on the front page of the datasheet, and Figure 8-1 "USB 2.0 ESD Schematic" on page 9, and the Package Outline Drawing on page 17 are ALL incorrect for the SOD-523 package part.

Can someone PLEASE confirm WHAT if anything is correct in the ESD321 datasheet is correct for the SOD-523 package part, as absolutely nothing ties up and is NEEDs to be 100% to ensure that design footprints are correct and subcontractors can assemble boards with the part correctly oriented with zero chance of error.

  • Hi Gary,

Yes, Table 5-1 is correct. The datasheet does not mention any bar at the end of the device for marking purposes but does list the device marking (1L8). As mentioned in Table 5-1, the device should be as below:

    Best,
