TUSB211A: Trace lengths supported

Part Number: TUSB211A

Tool/software:

Hi TI team,

It is stated that the TUSB211A supports up to 5m cable length.

1. Does this translate directly to a 5m PCB trace length as well? If not, what is the supported trace length for the part?

2. If I have a 13 inch trace route for the USB2.0 (device to device connection), would I have to place the re-driver near the destination device? or can it be placed in the middle as well?

Regards,

Ken.

  • Hi Ken,

Yes, as long as the USB2 traces are designed properly, this can be translated to a 5M PCB trace length.

    2. If I have a 13 inch trace route for the USB2.0 (device to device connection), would I have to place the re-driver near the destination device? or can it be placed in the middle as well?

We recommend the redriver be placed closer to destination device/connector, that way the redriver can improve the signal quality right before it enters the cable or device. In the case of 13 inches, for redriver settings, I would recommend starting with settings at level 0 or level 1 EQ settings just to ensure that the redriver does not cause any overcompensation.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks,

    Ryan
