THVD8000: OOK Carrier

Part Number: THVD8000
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THVD8010

Tool/software:

Hi

AC line PLC communication is being implemented using THVD8000

1. Problem: Noise is recognized as carrier when communicating using AC line and the UART bit is broken (see white box below)

2. Contact:

    A. How many carrier waves are recognized as signals when modulating OK?

    B. Sounds good, carrier recognition method?

        i. Is it only recognized at the voltage level? (e.g. above 200 mV it is recognized as a carrier.)

ii. Do you recognize it as SNR above a certain level?
3. Request

     A. Is there any way to improve misrecognition due to power noise and switching noise?

Thanks

  • Hi David,

Can you please share a schematic of your system? In addition, please share the bus length, modulation frequency, AC voltage level, and UART data rate.

    - The band pass filter is not selective enough due to the high tolerance (about +/-25%). This makes the THVD8000 relatively sensitive to noise.

    - The THVD8000 looks at difference in magnitude for the carrier recognition.

    - SNR is receiver threshold determined as can been seen in the image below:

If your data rate is slow enough, the THVD8010 (30kbps) might be a better option due to its wider signal hysteresis, preventing more noise interference.

    Best,

    Ethan
