DS90UB960-Q1: Camera support

Part Number: DS90UB960-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB971-Q1, DS90UB953-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello as per DS90UB960-Q1 Supports 2-Megapixel Sensors With Full HD 1080p Resolution at 60-Hz Frame Rate. I want to ask can I use DS90UB960-Q1 for following configuration 2x3MP Camera sensor & 2X8MP camera sensor

  • Hi Pranjali,

The DS90UB960 can support a maximum input video rate of 3.328Gbps. The video rate can be calculated via the following equation: horizontal resolution * vertical resolution * bits per pixel * frame rate * overhead (estimate 12-25% if unknown).

As a rough estimate, the 8MP sensor would likely only be able to be used if the frame rate is ~30FPS and has a maximum of 10 bits per pixel. The system will also need to ensure a serializer with the supported input video rates. If it is desired to look at the system more in depth, please reply with the specific parameters mentioned above and we'd be happy to look over them.

    Best,

    Zoe

  • Hi Zoe Bison,

Thanks for your reply. Please check parameters for each camera sensor

For 8MP camera sensor resolution is a 3840 H x 2160 V, 26 bit per pixel , frame rate=60fps,overhead is unknown. Serailizer we are using DS90UB971-Q1 for 8MP camera sensor.

For 3MP camera sensor resolution is 1920 H x 1536 V, 26 bit per pixel, frame rate=60 fps , overhead is unknown, Serailizer we are using DS90UB953-Q1 for 3MP camera .

If DS90UB960-Q1 will not support to my requirements then can you please suggest me other deserailzer part number

  • Hi Pranjali,

Thanks for sharing more information on the 8MP camera being used. Is the 8MP camera a CSI-2 data type output? Typically, we don't see 26 bits per pixel for the video data. Can you share the name of the CSI-2 data type?

    Best,

    Zoe

  • Hi Zoe , Yes it is CSI-2 output. MIPI CSI−2 12, 16, 24 (22 significant bits) and 28−bit (26 significant bits)

  • Hi Pranjali,

Thanks for sharing the additional information. A limitation will exist on the serializer as well as the deserializer due to the video resolutions. For the 8MP resolution discussed, an estimate for the maximum bits per pixel and frame rate supported would be 20bpp at 30FPS. Please note, the serializer will have an input data rate limitation and should be checked as well.
