In our project, we use the two dp83869hm with 100Mbit SFP modules as well as 1000Mbit SFP modules. Using detection of the module insertion, a readout of the SFP capabilities, and configuring some register settings accordingly, we can achieve link between a switch and our device.
However, our device is equipped with two PHY's and a HSR core in the FPGA, to establish a ring-topology. In this case, the link from the device to the switch starts up, but the link between two devices does not seem to work completely. With an oscilloscope, we can see 100mbit data on the link. Both on the Tx and the Rx channel. Apparently, it's not good enough to have the PHY decide to "switch the link OK led on". (We configured LED2 to display "Link OK".)
If we connect a loopback fiber to the same module, the link comes up, AND disconnecting the fiber and reconnecting DOES give link again.
If we connect a duplex fiber between the two PHYs on the same device (same XI input), the link comes up upon powerup, but disconnecting the fiber and reconnecting does NOT give link again.
If we connect a duplex fiber between two modules, and we power them both at the same moment, the link comes up, but disconnecting the fiber and reconnecting does NOT give link again.
If we connect a duplex fiber between two modules, and we power them with 10 seconds in between, the link does not come up.
Can you advice how to "tickle" the PHY to try to re-negotiate a link when the link is not up well-enough in 100Mbit mode?
In 1000Mbit mode, this all works flawlessly.
