VAR-3P-SOM-AM62: Activaiting PTP for VAR-SOM-AM625

Hi everyone,

i have the VAR-SOM-AM625 SoM and i want to use the PTP Protocoll. When i check the MAC network interface if it supports PTP i get the following:

Time stamping parameters for eth0:
Capabilities:
        hardware-transmit     
        software-transmit     
        hardware-receive      
        software-receive      
        software-system-clock 
        hardware-raw-clock    
PTP Hardware Clock: 0
Hardware Transmit Timestamp Modes:
        off                   
        on                    
Hardware Receive Filter Modes:
        none                  
        all

I did not get any specific output wehter it supports hardware of software time stamping and i know it supports both.
I have allready activated the CPTC Module in the Kernel und it is active.
So whay i got this and what should i do?

We support hardware timestamps, all Linux systems support software timestamps. You select hardware timestamps with ptp4l option -H (see for example https://linux.die.net/man/8/ptp4l ). i still get the same outputs even cpts is activated and all this parameters in the kernel:

This is as expected. Shows the capability that there is hardware timestamp support in the Ethernet driver. Ethtool reports what the driver can support, PTP is a userspace application that might or might not use the features from the driver.

Not sure what you mean with this? Is something printing IT IS EMPTY in all caps? Can you attach the command you ran?

For PTP as I already pointed out above with ptp4l the option -H uses hardware timestamps, link to the command here again:

That printout column to the right is just a helper to what socket option gets you access to this feature from the Ethernet driver. The capabilities are as listed. hardware-transmit and hardware-receive is what ptp4l uses.
