TVP5151: Product life cycle

Part Number: TVP5151

Tool/software:

Currently, the TVP5151IPBSR has a product life cycle of Active.  However, in 2014 it had a product life cycle of Not Recommended for New Designs (NRFND).  It switched to Active in 2019, back to NRFND in 2020, and back to Active later in 2020.  With all of these product life cycle changes, how long does Texas Instruments plan to continue manufacturing the TVP5151IPBSR?  I do know that the BGA version of this device TVP5151IZQC was discontinued in 2019.  So I'm wondering if the TQFP version is not far behind.  Thanks.

  • Hi Chris,
Thanks for reaching out here. The TVP5151IPBSR device is orderable and in high volume production.  Please feel free to continue to utilize this device in new opportunities.

I am not able to directly comment on the history of status change mentioned in your initial message from several years back on this device.

In general, our process to evaluate whether a device is a candidate for obsolescence is to consistently review device activity and if the situation is merited with limited or no activity for an extended time period, we will move the device to NRND and subsequently offer an EOL LTB following notification for JEDEC practices.

There are always exceptions to this process and these are taken on a case by case basis and our goal is to work with customers to find a solution.

Specific to the TVP5151IZQC that had EOL LTB offered in 2019, this was tied to a discontinuation of the package offering and very low volumes.

Let me know if this addresses your question and if I can offer any additional follow up.  Thanks!
